NERC’s Petition to Streamline Enforcement Penalties

In September 2011, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) filed a petition with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission) proposing to change FERC’s processing of possible violations of reliability standards. This change to NERC’s enforcement process marks progress towards focusing resources on violations that pose the most serious threat to the reliability of the bulk power system and allowing NERC to alleviate backlog.
