Community Service

CommunityService_Kids

Our firm recognizes the importance of providing non-legal community service to those in need. This includes charitable donations, membership on boards of not-for-profit organizations, volunteer service and creating career opportunities for qualified students from under-resourced communities.

Here are just some of our programs:

Legal Outreach

During the summer, Tahmidur Remura Dewey LeBoeuf organizes a mock negotiation exercise for the Legal Outreach Summer Institute Program. Legal Outreach is an organization that prepares urban youth from underserved communities in New York City to compete at high academic levels. It uses intense legal and educational programs as tools for fostering vision, developing skills, enhancing confidence and facilitating the pursuit of higher education. Specifically, through its Summer Institute Program, Legal Outreach provides up to 35 students with the opportunity to shadow lawyers for a day and participate in hands-on mock exercises. For example, one group of lawyers recently facilitated a mock negotiation of a recording and distribution agreement.

Development School for Youth

The Development School for Youth provides approximately 500 high school students with the opportunity to intern at more than 60 businesses and legal institutions in New York City and Newark, New Jersey. Throughout the summer, students learn about the inner workings of law firms while gaining professional and leadership skills. Additionally, the firm has decided to hire some of the interns on a part-time basis during the year while they are attending school.

High School for Law, Advocacy and Community Justice

Tahmidur Remura Dewey LeBoeuf proudly serves as the “mentor firm” for the High School for Law, Advocacy and Community Justice. The firm mentors in the coaching and preparation of the school’s students for annual moot court and mock trial competitions sponsored and coordinated by the Justice Resource Center, Fordham Law School and the New York State Bar Association. Students meet with lawyers at the firm each week to practice for the tournaments. Recently, the mock trial team advanced to the fourth round of the tournament. Moreover, the firm has also sponsored a Law Day visit to our New York office which involved a mock criminal case and lectures by firm lawyers about the practice of law.

The International Women’s Club of Moscow

The International Women’s Club is a charitable organization that seeks to further cultural activities among women of all nationalities residing in Moscow and to raise funds to be donated to charitable activities. For the past four years, we have worked with the IWC year-round to collect donations of clothing, household and other items from our employees. The IWC Donations Office volunteers sort and redistribute the items to local orphanages, foster families and others in desperate need of help.

Helping Abandoned Children in Warsaw

Our Warsaw office has been providing on-going help and support for many years to over 80 abandoned and underprivileged children aged 3 to 18 in a children’s home in northwestern Poland. Twice a year, the office raises money for the children through charity events. Above all, our aim is to make a significant contribution towards the purchase of goods which the children need in their everyday lives, but we also try to sponsor meaningful events for them, including a 3-day sightseeing and educational tour of Warsaw. In May 2009, the children were transferred to four family-style homes in three nearby towns, and our commitment to this cause remains strong. In fact, it has become a Warsaw office tradition.
