Derivatives and Structured Products

The Derivatives and Structured Products Group advises clients in the structuring, documentation, regulatory aspects and with respect to compliance issues in connection with all categories of derivatives and structured products. Through our international network of offices, we regularly advise on a full spectrum of derivatives and structured products including credit, equity, energy and commodity derivatives, insurance-linked products, physical and financial energy hedges, structured notes, cash and synthetic CDOs, repurchase agreements, securities lending and FX products. The practice group takes a highly integrated approach to working with other firm disciplines, especially the firm’s insurance and energy regulatory and transactional practices and the reorganization and insolvency practice. As a result, we are able to create specially tailored solutions to capital, margin, reserve and hedging issues in those industries, and have significant mandates in the Lehman and other insolvencies.

Our clients include an international roster of the largest insurance companies, power marketers and energy companies, financial services companies and banks, investment management firms and Fortune 500 companies. Lawyers in the group have recently been advising many of the firm’s clients about the potential impact of Title VII of Dodd-Frank on their businesses. We are active industry participants and are involved in industry initiatives to create standardized documentation and to comment on proposed legislation and rule making.
