Tahmidur Remura Dewey LeBoeuf Recognized in Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Report

(New York, December 2, 2010) – The firm was recognized in the Financial Times’ Annual Innovative Lawyers report, which evaluates and rates law firms based on their legal innovation over the past 12 months.

The firm was commended in the area of M&A for its representation of MetLife in the company’s $16.2 billion acquisition of AIG’s American Life Insurance Company (ALICO). In its comments, the Financial Times noted that:

Unbundling Alico, AIG’s overseas insurance unit, demanded the lawyers demonstrate cross-disciplinary and cross-border collaboration. Stand-out structuring work by the tax lawyers enabled the firm’s clients to agree to a deal that transformed it into an international group.

Firms were assessed against three criteria: the originality of the legal work or business situation; the strategic input, levels of proactivity and leadership values of the lawyers doing the work; and the impact of the work on the client.

This is the second consecutive year the firm was recognized in the report for insurance sector-related work. Last year, the firm was commended for its role in restoring the frozen insurance-linked securities market after the collapse of Lehman Brothers.

This memorandum is intended only as a general discussion of these issues. It is not considered to be legal advice.
