Firm Advises Qualcomm Inc. in Billion-Dollar License Agreement with Samsung Electronics Co.

(Silicon Valley, November 19, 2009) – The firm has advised Qualcomm Inc., the world’s leading provider of wireless communications technology, in an agreement with Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s second-largest mobile handset maker. As part of the long-term licensing deal, Samsung will pay Qualcomm $1.3 billion in lump sum payments in addition to running royalties on the sale of Samsung 3G and 4G devices worldwide.

The cross-licensing deal also gives Qualcomm the right to use Samsung’s patents for Qualcomm’s wireless chipsets, and will result in Samsung assigning ownership of approximately 55 families of patents (comprising approximately 300 individual patents) to Qualcomm.

Silicon Valley Partner Eric Reifschneider represented Qualcomm in this transaction.
