The firm’s Houston office is an integral part of the worldwide energy practice, with an emphasis on serving the national and international needs of energy companies located in the Houston area. The office is a key part of the firm’s Litigation practice, drawing on the trial experience of our Texas litigators.

Our energy lawyers in Houston represent clients in a broad spectrum of transactions across the energy industry, including the buying and selling of power plants, pipeline systems, gas gathering systems and other energy-related assets; national and international project development and financing matters; as well as public mergers and acquisitions transactions. Our clients include the Angola LNG Project (a project sponsored by Chevron, BP, TOTAL and Sonangol, the Angolan state oil company), GE Energy Finance, Macquarie Bank, EnergyCo (a joint venture of Public Service of New Mexico and a Bill Gates investment fund), AGL Resources, Duke Energy and numerous other energy companies. A significant part of our energy practice in Houston advises on international matters, with an emphasis on the Middle East and Africa.

The Houston office’s proximity to the energy industry allows our firm to maintain a high-profile and easy accessibility to the energy industry. The majority of the world’s energy companies are headquartered or maintain significant operations in Houston, creating a close working relationship between our lawyers and clients. Our firm brings a unique combination of transactional experience and regulatory experience to our current and potential clients.

Our Houston-based energy lawyers work extensively with the firm’s Energy Regulatory practice in our Washington, DC office and rely on the resources of our other firm offices for environmental, tax, employee benefits and related skills.

The firm’s Houston-based litigators have extensive experience in complex business litigation and arbitration of all kinds, including energy, contract, fraud, real estate and intellectual property matters. Our Houston Litigation Group is an integral part of the firm’s national and international Litigation practice, with Houston-based lawyers working on matters all over the US and overseas. The firm’s attention to developing the litigation capability of the Houston office takes advantage of the trial experience of its Texas litigators, who developed that experience in an environment where more cases go to trial than anywhere else in the US.

In addition to the firm’s Business Litigation practice, our Houston lawyers have led the firm’s representations of energy companies in litigation that has arisen out of the collapse of the natural gas and electricity markets in California, Illinois and elsewhere in the US. This litigation frequently makes use of the firm’s ability to represent clients in both state and federal courts and before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
