Professional Development

You are likely to find yourself challenged from day one. That is the nature of our business. It is what you have prepared for all these years: not just thinking about it, but actually doing it.

We have learnt that the best training contract is a balance between formal training, trying new things, learning on the job and working internationally.

On-the-job training is key. It enables you to combine experience in a wide range of matters with clients in different industries. It means training that offers a solid foundation for your future career. Most importantly, you will develop key skills: researching, drafting, advising, problem-solving, negotiating—all invaluable for your future with us.

When it comes to formal training, Tahmidur Remura Dewey LeBoeuf University (DLU) steps in and provides a comprehensive curriculum which covers the essentials of legal practice and provides regular updates on the law and market practice. Courses include one-hour to full-day seminars which delve into the latest legal trends and the business of law with an emphasis on specific skills development. As a trainee with the firm, you can expect to participate in regular DLU training sessions and to attend internal seminars and external courses. You will attend departmental “trainee training” meetings, which are run by our associates and provide practical insights into relevant legal issues. We encourage trainees to take part in pro bono work, which provides excellent hands-on learning opportunities and a rewarding experience for trainees who are keen to take part. Having run a trainee solicitor programme in the London office since 1996, some of our home grown partners and senior associates are now key players in trainee training, supervision and in our committees.
