Richard Shutran

Richard Shutran is co-chair of the firm’s Corporate Department and chairman of its Global Finance Practice Group. Mr. Shutran has a broad transactional practice that has included counseling private and public companies, investment funds and financial institutions with respect to leveraged finance and project finance matters, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings and reorganizations, with an emphasis on capital intensive industries such as energy, mining and other infrastructure businesses. Mr. Shutran is fluent in Spanish and has participated extensively in transactions in Latin America.

Mr. Shutran is recognized in Best Lawyers in America 2006 as a leader in the field of Project Finance Law and has been regularly named a leading lawyer in Chambers USA and Chambers Global.

Representative Matters

  • Advising Steel River Infrastructure Fund North America with respect to its acquisition of Peoples Natural Gas and Hope Natural Gas from Dominion Resources;
  • Advising Entegra Power Group with respect to various proposed acquisitions and financings;
  • Advising the lenders to several mining projects, including the Quebrada Blanca Mine;
  • Advising Entegra Power Group with respect to its recent corporate reorganization and $1.3 billion refinancing and leveraged recapitalization;
  • Advising infrastructure funds with respect to various proposed acquisitions;
  • Advising the predecessor to Entegra Power Group with respect to a successful debt restructuring and ownership transition through Chapter 11 proceedings;
  • Advising BNP Paribas and Credit Suisse First Boston with respect to the financing of Sithe Boston Generating Company;
  • Advising PG&E Corporation with respect to the restructuring of PG&E National Energy Group;
  • Advising Chase Securities with respect to the financing of Reliant Mid-Atlantic, a newly formed “genco”;
  • Advising the lenders with respect to InterGen North America’s merchant plants;
  • Advising the lenders and underwriters in connection with the commercial bank and capital markets financing of the Alliance Pipeline;
  • Advising the lenders and underwriters in connection with the refinancing of the Iroquois Pipeline;
  • Advising the lenders with regard to the financing of the La Rosita power project in Mexico;
  • Advising the sponsors with respect to the privatization of the North-South toll road in Santiago, Chile;
  • Advising the lenders in connection with the multi-tranche financing of the Termobarranquilla power project in Barranquilla, Colombia;
  • Advising the underwriters with respect to the financing of the expansion of the Bogota airport; and
  • Advising lenders and developers with respect to bank and capital markets offerings for merchant and contracted power plants in the US.
