Tax Controversy and Litigation

Tahmidur Remura Dewey LeBoeuf’s Tax Controversy and Litigation Group represents many of the world’s largest corporations, financial institutions, insurance companies and professional services firms, as well as prominent individuals, in complex, high-stakes tax disputes involving the Internal Revenue Service, various state and international taxing authorities, and the United States Congress.

Our Tax Controversy and Litigation Group is recognized in the New York and national tax controversy markets in terms of the size and breadth of its capabilities. Our nationally prominent trial lawyers and litigators have litigated many significant and often contentious tax disputes and investigations, involving the taxation of financial products, corporate, partnership and trusts and estates issues, tax shelters, transfer pricing, tax accounting, criminal tax, privilege, procedural and constitutional issues, as well as an array of additional domestic and international large-case tax controversies. Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of as many as 150 tax litigators, tax and litigation lawyers throughout the United States and Europe and an in-house staff of economists who play an important role in dealing with experts and assisting in the preparation of cases for trial.

We represent our clients during all administrative and investigative phases of civil and criminal tax investigations and examinations and in all tax forums, from the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the federal district courts and courts of appeals, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. Our lawyers also conduct internal investigations; represent clients in civil litigation involving tax and accounting fraud and negligence claims, grand jury and ethical investigations; and provide risk management and corporate compliance advice to clients on issues such as the attorney-client privilege, tax accrual work papers, FIN 48 disclosures, Circular 230 compliance and structured tax transaction guidelines.
